All the songs on this portion of the site were written and performed between July and October 2003. The songs range in style from an African undercurrent coupled with a Miles Davis sounding trumpet lead to music that I imagined might be representative of the style I associate with old Warner Brothers cartoon sound tracks. I've included a piece that reflects my attempt to emulate a five piece swing band, a new age meditative piece, and a country guitar piece, among others.
Each of the songs is original and entirely the work of Steve Kesten with the exception of Hummingbird for which I relied heavily on the poem, Erinna From Telos, written by the Polish poet, Adam Zagajewski. The poem was translated into English by Clare Cavanagh. I did not remain true to the poem as those who know the work will attest. The poem has been altered in content and re-arranged in form to fit the musical genre.
For those of you who visit the site, I hope you take the time to sample each of the songs because each is markedly different from the rest. If you would like to hear my newest work, kindly email me using the link provided and I'd be happy to reply with a copy of my latest work attached.
Thanks for listening and I always welcome your input. Due to time constraints, most of the songs aren't as developed as I would like. I rarely have time to do more than the most minor of edits. My studio remains open and available to any musician who has the desire to record their work.
Thanks for listening,
Steve Kesten
